Higher education is a big commitment for anyone here at Helms College. They understand that and they offer low tuition, but still give a very high end education.
Whether you're straight out of high school or, you know, deciding that you want to just do something different with your life, it's just really a great opportunity for everybody.
We teach them different skills -- medical assisting, culinary -- different skills that they would have to go to a traditional school to get. And we do it at a faster pace. That fast pace allows them to get into the job market faster.
Cooking was always a passion for me but fortunately, I didn't have the time to dedicate to that. But after I retired from the military, the social worker at the VA, he told me that there was actually a school here, literally in my backyard, which was a great thing for me, so I can go ahead and actually chase my dream while still being a father.
Helms College offers a lot of certifications and it's great to have on your resume because people love to see that you are qualified.
Our job placement is fantastic. After they get this lab experience, then they actually go out and work in the field before they graduate and a lot of places hire them on afterwards. Before I became an instructor here, I worked with students who had come from Helms College and they, you know, they just had a leg up. People are able to get in, they'll get their degrees, they'll get the experience right away and then they're able to get on with their life and move on to actually start making some money instead of just, you know, having to drag out like a four-year degree.
